Room 4's Science Expo.

Today the parents visited our class to listen to their tamariki presenting their learning about the sun and solar energy.

Here is some feedback left by a couple of parents for our students.
"Awesome, Confidence building."
"Good learning for presenting."
"Good Teamwork."
"Overall fantastic."
"Very informative. I learnt a lot about particles."
"I was amazed that 7 and 8 year olds know this stuff."
"Congratulations on your presentations. You were all so confident and spoke clearly."
"I am happy to know that you are all learning so much about science and clever ways to present your learning."
"I look forward to the next one."
"Ka Rawe."

Our growing plants.

Look at our seedlings grow. We only planted them last week.

They are growing very fast. We know that plants need water and sunlight to grow.

So we are watering them every day and we put them in a place that gets lots of sunlight.

Today we read in our text that plants use sunlight to make their own food.

Our next question is

How do plants use sunlight to make their own food?

Planting our seeds

We were very excited to start back at school on the first day of Term 4 2020.

We celebrated by planting our Little Garden seeds.

We will be watching our seeds germinate and grow. We will be looking after

them, watering them and keeping them healthy.

Making Observations and Predictions

We have been learning to extend our experiences and personal explanations of the natural world through exploration, observation and asking questions.

We have been learning to observe nature, ask questions, make predictions, share our predictions, and then prove whether our predictions are correct. Here is an example one of our sessions.

Whaea Annie brought some white daisies to school. We looked at them carefully sitting in clear water.

We took 4 daisies and put each one  into a glass of water. We added food colouring to the water in 3 of the glasses. We made predictions about what would happen to the daisies.
Here is one prediction.

Was this prediction correct? This is what happened to the daisies.

Please go to our individual student blogs to find out what we predicted would happen to the daisies

and whether our predictions were correct.
